Conscious Discipline Terms We Use
SAFE PLACE: A spot in our classroom for students to gain composure. Most rooms in our school have their own safe place for students to use, including specials/focus areas.
BREATHING STRATEGIES: A method for regaining composure. These are scientifically proven breathing exercises combined with body movements that help students to calm their bodies and minds.
REFLECTION SHEET: Students complete a reflection sheet when they visit our classroom safe place to share with parents what made them feel upset, sad, etc.
FAMILY TIME: Every morning we have 15 minutes of family time together to learn more about one another and prepare for the day together. This time includes greeting each other each morning, sharing things that are important to us, recognizing each other for working hard, and discussing our classroom jobs.
CLASSROOM JOBS: Each week every student has a classroom job. This helps us to build an effective classroom community where we are all valued.
Students know the following statement: "My job is to keep you safe. Your job is to keep it that way."
