Entrepreneurial Design is the creative approach to solving problems using a good or service. Students will learn about businesses and organizations that have solved problems in schools, communities, or global issues using a good or service. We will partner with groups who are doing just this! Additionally, we will focus on the entrepreneurial mindset for students. 65% of grade school students will end up in a job that hasn’t been created yet - how do we prepare students for that? We give them the essential skills they need to be problem solvers, persevere, be creative, be innovative, and excel in any situation by using what they know! (They will not be adhering to the dictionary definition of entrepreneur, no student will be investing their money or becoming a mogul or tycoon). Will we still have focus areas? Of course! Focus areas and specials will continue as they always have. Students will have choices for each quarter in grades 2-5, such as computer science, physical education, music, visual arts, spanish, dance, and drama. We are hoping to enhance focus areas by connecting them with entrepreneurs in that specific area (i.e. architects, musicians, athletes, actors, computer scientists, and more!) What about modules? The scheduling of modules will change a little as grade levels will have different module times, they won’t all be at the end of the day. This will better allow us to schedule with different speakers, adjust for excursions, and allow for use of our makerspace. Grade levels will be able to decide if students are going to rotate classes for modules based on what best fits their schedule and student needs. All teachers will teach the module at the same time during the year, so that we can better connect modules to other content being taught. Will we still have guest speakers, excursions, and video conferences? Students will experience these as they tie into modules, we are looking to expand these opportunities to include entrepreneurs in our community. If you know of someone, or would like to make a suggestion for a guest speaker, excursion, or video conference that connects with our science and social studies, please reach out to our Magnet Coordinator Linnea Gibson ([email protected]). What will happen with technology? We aim to increase and improve our technology integration. As we continue to grow our 1:1 implementation to the lower grade levels, we aim to have technology as a tool and resource for them to demonstrate their learning. We want our students to keep up with emerging technology, to include more than just screens (laptops, desktops, tablets). For example, we now have a 3D printer! With entrepreneurial design, they will be able to see how technology has expanded the possibilities to solve problems in our world. Will they still be active learning and technology? Yes, our modules will still be very engaging and hands-on. Our technology integration will only grow as we hope to expand the iPads to more students in the lower grade levels and we look at non-traditional technology. What are students losing with this change? Our goal is that entrepreneurial design only grows our program! We offer a lot of great programming and opportunities for students and plan to keep it that way. This change will only enhance and bring all that we offer together under one umbrella. So they won’t lose anything, just refreshing the great things we do! |
